Donate your old furniture for reuse
Over 10 million reusable items of furniture are sent to landfill by local authorities in the UK every year - almost 30,000 items every day. (Furniture Reuse Network 2007)
The Cheshire Furniture Reuse Forum is made up of 14 not-for-profit projects that work closely with the county and six district councils to divert reusable furniture and appliances from going to landfill.
The forum works throughout Cheshire to collect and redistribute quality furniture and appliances to support low income families.
The Forum will collect furniture and appliances in good condition for free from households across Cheshire.
In 2006 there was a 90% increase in the amount of furniture they reused, collecting the equivalent of more than 8,000 sofas or 6,000 beds which would have ended up in landfill.
In achieving this, they provided furniture to 32,000 people - 10,526 more than the previous year.
In October 2007, Cheshire Furniture Re-use Forum won a national award as the Best Community Recycling Initiative in the UK.
