Become a Recycling Champion in your area

The County and District Councils work together as the Cheshire Waste Partnership to run ongoing waste minimisation campaigns promoting home composting, reusable nappies and reusable bags. We are also working with community furniture reuse groups to help increase the amount of furniture that is reused in Cheshire.

All these waste reduction and recycling schemes will only make a difference if everyone participates in them to the full. This is why we need to constantly promote the schemes through Cheshire-wide publicity campaigns. We run these campaigns under the banner of the 'Recycle for Cheshire' logo.

The County and District councils can put adverts on buses, hoardings, in newspapers and on the radio but if we are to ensure the campaigns reach into the heart of every Cheshire community, we need the support of a network of enthusiastic 'Local Recycling Champions'.

With your help as a Local Recycling Champion for your community we can ensure that the 'Recycle for Cheshire' campaigns are seen and understood in all corners of Cheshire.

What can Local Recycling Champions Do?

There are many practical things that Local Recycling Champions can do. These include -

o Display posters on local notice boards, local shops, pubs and other meeting places
o Put articles in Parish newsletters and websites
o Place leaflets in newsletters, local shops and popular meeting places
o Run a 'Recycle for Cheshire' stand or display at local events
o Run local competitions
o Arrange for speakers at local events

What help will Local Recycling Champions receive?

We will provide you with regular packs containing updates on existing campaigns and on waste issues for Cheshire as well as information on planned campaigns.

The packs will include campaign details, copies of publicity material such as posters or leaflets and details of the campaign start and end dates.

We would also like to provide simple events materials for those of you who offer to run stands or displays at your local events.

Who can be a Local Recycling Champion?

Recycling Champions are people who have a keen interest in waste issues and are willing to play an active part in promoting sustainable waste actions in their local community. They are usually involved in or nominated by key local community organisations e.g. Parish councils or the Womens' Institute.
